There are very few places on the earth which can have such an important and massive concetration of history, archeaological ruins, geological phenomenon and volcanoes active, like that which can be seen at the Solfatara; moreover various and rich vegetation, legends and myths sung by the greatest poets and writers of the past.
THE PHLEGREAN FIELDS
Whose ethimology means: ardente from the greek phlegràios from the volcanic activity which clearly appeared to the first greek sailors.
They stretch along the Gulf of the Pozzuoli from Capo Posillipo to Capo Miseno(see map) and they include the four sites all deserving a visit: Pozzuoli, Cuma, Baia, Miseno. These names are certainly known to those who have studied the poems of Omero and Virgilio
And the surprise will not end here. Infact visiting these places it will be as a leap in the ancient Roman civilization as there are a lot of evidences, still well kept which can witness how these places were the preferred ones by the Caesar and by their courts who came here to stay and to be able to enjoy the mild climate and the beneficial Thermal baths. |
